Counseling Rooted in Access, Compassion, and Mindfulness
Mindful Wellness Center of Austin (MWCA) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit created to make thoughtful, mindfulness-based counseling affordable and accessible to adults and couples throughout Central Texas.
Our mission is simple: empowerment through mindfulness.
We believe people deserve a place to feel heard, supported, and respected, regardless of income, background, or where they are in their healing process. Through affordable counseling, sliding scale options, graduate-level therapists, associate clinicians, and virtual care, we work to reduce the barriers that often keep people from receiving support.
Our approach brings together traditional talk therapy, mindfulness practices, self-compassion, and trauma-informed frameworks. The goal is not only to understand what you are going through, but to help you build practical skills you can carry into daily life.
Mental health support should not be out of reach
Many people come to therapy feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, anxious, self-critical, or unsure of what they need.
You do not have to arrive with the right words.
Our therapists create a warm, nonjudgmental space where you can slow down, explore what is happening, and begin to notice the patterns shaping your thoughts, emotions, relationships, and responses.
Mindfulness helps create a pause between what you experience and how you respond. With practice, that pause can lead to greater awareness, healthier coping, more self-compassion, and a stronger sense of choice.
Our Approach to Counseling
Types of Counseling We Offer
-
Individual Counseling
Individual counseling offers one-on-one support for adults navigating anxiety, stress, grief, self-doubt, relationship patterns, or major life changes. Sessions focus on your needs, helping you understand patterns and build practical, lasting tools.
-
Couples Counseling
Couples counseling offers support for partners facing communication challenges, conflict, emotional distance, trust concerns, or life transitions. Therapy helps each person feel heard, recognize patterns, and build healthier ways of relating.
-
Anxiety and Stress Support
Counseling can help you understand how stress and anxiety affect your thoughts, body, sleep, and relationships. Sessions may include mindfulness, grounding, emotional regulation, and practical coping strategies for everyday life.
-
Depression and Emotional Overwhelm
Therapy offers a supportive, judgment-free space to explore sadness, exhaustion, isolation, irritability, hopelessness, or disconnection. Together, you can understand what is affecting your well-being and identify meaningful next steps.
-
Grief, Loss, and Life Transitions
Grief can follow many kinds of loss, including death, relationship changes, moves, career shifts, or unmet expectations. Counseling offers support to process emotions, honor what has changed, and move forward with greater understanding.
-
Relationship and Boundary Support
Counseling can help you recognize patterns such as people-pleasing, conflict avoidance, fear of rejection, or difficulty setting boundaries, and practice healthier communication, decision-making, and self-care in relationships.
-
Mindfulness-Based Counseling
Mindfulness-based counseling combines traditional therapy with present-moment practices that help you notice thoughts, emotions, and physical sensations with curiosity and less judgment. Techniques may include breathing, grounding, and body awareness.
-
Trauma-Informed Counseling
Trauma-informed care recognizes how past and ongoing experiences can shape stress, relationships, vulnerability, and workplace interactions. Our therapists prioritize trust, empathy, collaboration, and a pace that feels safe and manageable.
-
Online Counseling
Most appointments are offered virtually, with limited in-person sessions available at our South Congress office starting September 2026. Online counseling offers accessible, compassionate support from a private, comfortable space.
Affordable Counseling Is Part of Our Mission
As a nonprofit counseling center, we offer affordable and sliding scale options with supervised graduate-level student therapists and associate clinicians. No proof of income is required for sliding scale services.
This model allows us to support clients while also helping train therapists who are committed to mindfulness, compassion, empathy, and accessible care.
Every counseling relationship is different, but our work is consistently grounded in:
Compassion and respect
Mindful presence
Self-compassion over self-criticism
Practical coping skills
Nervous system awareness
Collaboration and personal choice
Trauma-informed care
Empathy and no judgment
Our hope is that counseling gives you more than insight. We want you to cultivate compassion and confidence towards yourself while also developing tools to help you feel more present, more connected, and more able to respond to life with intention.
