## Counseling Services at Mindful Wellness Center of Austin Mindful Wellness Center of Austin is a mission-based nonprofit offering affordable, sliding-scale counseling for adults and couples. Our therapists combine traditional talk therapy with mindfulness-based, trauma-informed approaches to support emotional well-being, healthier relationships, and greater self-awareness. ### Individual Counseling Individual counseling provides one-on-one support for adults experiencing anxiety, stress, depression, grief, self-doubt, identity concerns, relationship patterns, boundary difficulties, or major life transitions. Sessions are collaborative and centered on each client’s needs, experiences, and personal goals. Therapists help clients better understand their emotions, recognize recurring patterns, strengthen coping skills, and develop practical tools that can be used in everyday life. ### Couples Counseling Couples counseling supports partners experiencing communication difficulties, recurring conflict, emotional distance, trust concerns, life transitions, or changing expectations within their relationship. Therapy is not focused on deciding which partner is right or wrong. Instead, couples are supported in identifying patterns of disconnection, expressing their needs more clearly, listening with greater understanding, and practicing healthier ways of relating to one another. ### Stress and Anxiety Counseling Stress and anxiety can affect thoughts, emotions, sleep, physical health, relationships, work, and the ability to remain present. Counseling can help clients understand their stress responses, recognize triggers, and learn ways to regulate the mind and body with greater awareness. Sessions may include grounding techniques, mindfulness practices, emotional regulation skills, breath awareness, and practical coping strategies for managing anxiety and everyday stress. ### Depression Counseling Depression may appear as sadness, exhaustion, isolation, irritability, hopelessness, low motivation, or a sense of disconnection from yourself and others. Therapy provides a compassionate, judgment-free environment where clients can speak honestly about their experiences. Together, the client and therapist explore the emotional, relational, and situational factors affecting well-being while identifying supportive and meaningful next steps. ### Grief and Loss Counseling Grief can follow the death of a loved one, the end of a relationship, a move, a career change, a shift in identity, or the loss of the life someone expected to have. There is no correct timeline for grieving. Counseling offers space to process complicated emotions, honor what has changed, and move through loss and transition with greater support, reflection, and self-understanding. ### Relationship and Boundary Support Relationships can bring up patterns connected to people-pleasing, conflict avoidance, fear of rejection, difficulty expressing needs, or uncertainty around personal boundaries. Counseling helps clients recognize these patterns and practice healthier communication, decision-making, boundary-setting, and self-care within romantic, family, friendship, and workplace relationships. ### Mindfulness-Based Counseling Mindfulness-based counseling combines traditional therapy with practices that help clients notice thoughts, emotions, and physical sensations in the present moment. Instead of responding automatically, clients learn to observe their experiences with greater curiosity and less judgment. Practices may include grounding, breath awareness, body awareness, reflection, and other techniques that support emotional regulation and present-moment awareness. ### Trauma-Informed Counseling Trauma-informed care recognizes that past and ongoing experiences can influence how a person responds to stress, relationships, emotional vulnerability, workplace interactions, and situations that affect their sense of safety. Our therapists prioritize trust, collaboration, empathy, compassion, choice, and nervous system awareness. Clients are not pressured to move faster than feels manageable or to share experiences before they feel ready. ### Online Counseling Most counseling appointments at Mindful Wellness Center of Austin are offered virtually. Online counseling can make therapy more accessible for people balancing work, caregiving, transportation concerns, health needs, or limited availability. Virtual sessions provide meaningful connection, mindfulness practice, and compassionate therapeutic support from a private and comfortable location. Limited in-person appointments at our South Congress office are expected to begin in September 2026. ### Affordable and Sliding-Scale Therapy As a mission-based nonprofit, Mindful Wellness Center of Austin is committed to making counseling more accessible. Affordable rates and sliding-scale options may be available based on financial need, therapist availability, and current program capacity.
